FlipSide's Book Review!

Tempt Me at Twilight (The Hathaways, #3) Tempt Me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas

My rating: 5 of 5 stars This third story in the series sure is as entertaining and heartfelt as the previous two. And now more than ever I wanted to read Leo & Catherine's story. A few revelations were shed some light in this series and only makes reading about the next two stories in the series even more exciting! As usual the Hathaways' eccentric upbringing and close familial bond was read and felt throughout the entire book; I would've been disappointed if that went missing. It was one of the unique things about this series that captured my interest and made me fall in love with each and every character. View all my reviews >>

Finally Moving Around Like a Normal Person Should!

This past few days had been horrendously draining for me.

    I've been sick.

And it's not just any kind of sickness either.

I was struck by the notorious flu (influenza), and I think it wasn't just the regular flu either.  Suffice to say I started feeling the brunt of it Sunday afternoon while I was out having lunch with my parents.  I was just feeling fine when I woke up Sunday morning, and when the folks came back from church and asked me if I wanted to go out with them for a ride (they're dropping stuff off someplace and checking stuff some other place) I figured why not join them.  After all it was Sunday and I ain't got anything planned (the previous night the surprise 30th anniversary party for the folks was a success, yes!) so I said yes.

We were at Walmart checking out goodies to give away for Halloween and goodies to send back to relatives in the Philippines.  I was feeling okay still, until nearing the end of our shopping trip.  I told Mom I was hungry coz technically the last time I ate was during dinner the night before and it was already around one in the afternoon by the time we were done buying what we needed to buy.

Even though there was a McDonald's inside Walmart, I told my folks I want to go to Boston Pizza instead coz I've been craving for some pasta like crazy! So we got to BPs and it wasn't busy.  The dining area wasn't filled, but they were showing Lilo & Stitch on all TV screens.  A quick survey of the place and I knew why; families with little kiddies were majority of the diners.  No sweat, I don't mind watching cartoon movies.  Heck, I enjoy watching cartoons over non-animated movies sometimes.

Anyway, so midway to our lunch my right hand felt numb all of a sudden.  I mean, I was holding my fork still but I can't feel it, ya know?  I had to put my fork down and gave my arm a massage because that was freaky.  That has never happened to me before.  After a while the numbness was gone and soon I was able to feel again, but after that it was all down hill.

My dad was looking for something and it was located on the west end of the city.  Since he was driving and I was just in the backseat, I figured if I zonked out it wouldn't matter, so I gave in to my sudden sleepiness and before I knew it, the entire time (from the moment we left BP's parking lot until we reached our destination and then heading back home) I was out of it!

I couldn't help it!  I was so damn sleepy!  But since I was always sleepy, I didn't think much of it.  It wasn't until later that evening that I really started feeling sick.  It was cold, yeah, but I was freezing cold!  And the dry cough I was suffering from earlier that day just became worse.

Everything happened so quickly.  By the next day I knew I wasn't ready to go to work.  I felt shitty.  My head felt heavy.  My nose was stuffy.  I felt lethargic beyond belief and...in a nutshell I was sick.  So I called in sick Monday morning thinking it would just be a passing 24-hour flu or whatever.  By nightfall I knew I wasn't getting any better, and yet I went to my second job still just so I wouldn't be nagged to death about being sick and not really being sick, yadi-yadi-yada.

That was a wrong move.  Good thing I survived it.  I think my Dad knew I was really sick coz at one time he caught me snoozing while he finished up with one room and I was already done doing my half.  I was a slowpoke that night.  Heck, I couldn't even vigorously scrub the glass door to get some speck of dirt off it coz I didn't have that much energy in me that night to do it.  I thought my Dad was gonna give me lip for that, but I think he saw me not faking my not feeling so well so he let it drop and re-wiped the glass door clean himself.

Suffice to say Monday night was no different from Sunday night -- only worse.  My head felt like it was going to explode; my chest ached because of my coughing and my nose was stuffier than ever!  So on Tuesday morning I called in sick again and this time went to the Medicentre.  I supposed I could've gone to my regular doctor, but sometimes getting in to see her doesn't happen ASAP.  Like if you wanted to see her at 10:00am, her secretary would fit you in for some time later in the day when there's an opening; like I can effing wait that long?!

So I was at the Medicentre.  Siz drove me there coz there was no way I was fit to be behind the wheel.  I was so proud of myself that I was able to pull myself together and didn't pass out or anything.  The Medicentre was packed!  And I had to take a number when I got in.

    I was #55.

The wait to get registered was long (almost 45 minutes).  By the time I stood in front of the receptionist giving her my info, I was close to passing out and my ears were plugged too so I thought I was underwater.  Anyway, the wait to get called in to see one of the doctors on duty wasn't that long after that.  I guess the admitting nurse saw the seriousness or severness or whatever of my condition coz when she asked me why I was there I told her I needed to know if what I have was flu or just a regular cold but I guess I not only felt like hell but I looked it as well so the wait was less than 15 minutes then I was in a room waiting to see the doctor.

And she confirmed it.  I had the signs of flu and prescibed a medication for me to take for 5 days straight (still taking the meds; tomorrow's my last day of taking it).  And after that I asked her for a sick note coz if I got the flu and needed to rest, I'd have to away from both jobs for the rest of this week and I need a valid excuse that I was indeed sick!

After our visit to the Medicentre I went back home, called my bosses at my two jobs and informed them of my situation.  They were understanding and since everyone's aware that this time of the year is flu season, everyone was encouraged to stay at home when they got it as opposed to going to work still.

I woke up Wednesday morning feeling better than I've been the last couple of days, but by the end of the day I guess I wasn't 100% better coz I started to get tired.  Thursday morning same thing.  I woke up feeling better, but nearing the end of the day I started feeling drained.

Today, Friday, I woke up feeling a whole lot better.  I'm moving around a lot seeing if I'd get tired easily, but so far so good.  Now the big test will be tomorrow: I have to go to class.

I know, I know, I should stay at home still, but dammit, I have a quiz for my first class and I am not quite grasping the second class; I can't afford to miss it.  But if I'm really feeling less than 75% okay, I'll talk to my instructor and tell her I'm leaving early coz I haven't fully recuperated from being sick this whole week just yet.

    501 Must-Visit Destinations

Last weekend I went crazy and bought all four seasons of Supernatural and the season 8 of Smallville.  Before that I bought some books that I have yet to read and will be reading soon.

Two of the books I bought were that of that 501 series.  They were the journal kinds and both caught me fancy.  Why?  One because the other book was called 501 Must-See Movies and listed titles of movies I have seen and some I have heard of but haven't seen yet, so maybe one of these days I'll grab the copies of DVDs I already have and do one of my so-called movie marathons.

The other book was called 501 Must-Visit Destinations.  Some of the places mentioned I've been to, but not all of 'em.  So now I'm planning a "trip" to take some time in this lifetime of mine and check-off each of the suggested destinations listed in this travel journal book.  Wouldn't that be something?

    Honesty is the BEST Policy...

I've been hearing that phrase said a lot.  I believe it, but then, don't you ever wonder when not to be too honest?

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather tell someone the truth, but do we always have to be 100% honest?  In a relationship I know it's good to have an open communication between the two people involved, and sometimes honesty plays an integral part, but as a person, don't you think you'd want to keep some things to yourself and not just share everything with the person you're with?

Granted you're married or marrying the said person you're with, but just because you're promising forever with that person doesn't mean you'll have to strip yourself raw and have all your secrets be known to him or her.  Am I being unreasonable here or what?  As far as I'm concerned, you can't give everyone ammunition to use against you in the long run.

I'd like to believe in happily ever afters, but let's face it, on the road to that so-called being together forever though thick or thin, in sickness and in health, yadi-yadi-yada, it can get bumpy and let's face it, it sometimes gets downright nasty.  So if you laid all your cards on the table, it can and will be used against you somewhere down the road.

I don't know.  I don't mind sharing certain information about myself with the one I'm with, but I'd like to hold some things back just in case.  Is that good or bad?  What do you think?

  • Been A While...

    Hell-Oh, Xanga!

Boy, it sure has been a while since I made an entry about...well, about something I blab about as opposed to review and blab about.

As I am typing this blog entry of mine, I am sitting on my bed inside my not-so-hot bedroom (trust me, every summer when the temps go UP my bedroom feels like a friggin' oven!!!) with my TV turned on and the channel tuned in to the Mystery channel.

Right now CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is on.  It's a re-run of an old episode from the series' earlier years (after the season finale when Grissom & Sara's "closet" romance was revealed I kinda lost interest in it).  I haven't seen this episode in a while so even though I know how this episode ends I'm still interested in it.

Anyway, before CSI Bones was on; it was an episode I haven't seen.  I have yet to watch the third season of the series, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Anyway, while watching Bones it reminded me why I love that series even though I rarely get the chance to watch a brand new episode when it's in season.  The chemistry between Brennan (Emily Deschenel - sp?) & Booth (David Boreanaz) was what pulled me in.  They were each other's complete opposite and yet...and yet they fit well together.

In CSI Grissom (William Petersen) and Catherine's (Marg Helgenberger) relationship was what drew me in.  Actually, it was Marg's character that drew me in.  She's fiesty.  She's sexy.  She's cocky.  She's smart.  She's...well, she's my kinda woman! -LoL-

So, who's your favourite TV duo?  Who's your kinda gal/guy?  Got a favourite TV series? C'mon peeps, entertain me! Let's make this blog entry interactive! :)

  • a Relaxing Sunday Afternoon...

My nephew went home last night after spending Thursday and Friday night over at our place.  I have to admit, I love my nephew but a 3-year-old tend to be a handful at times.  I don't mind looking after him from time to time.  heck, I don't even mind having him sleep over at our place provided I don't work the next day.  Thursday night we had a bit of a problem coz both Mom and I were due to work the following day, Friday.  Good thing sis was off and she took our nephew under her wing and he slept in her room Thursday night.  Now Friday I was prepared to remain awake until the week hours of the morning if ever my nephew decided he didn't want to sleep, but like the previous night, he went and bunked-in with my sister so I was able to sleep somewhat peacefully once again.

It's a gorgeous Sunday afternoon.  It was raining all day Friday, but all day Saturday it didn't even rain at all.  I thought it would last night, but it didn't.  And today...well, another nice, sunny day.  So I took advantage of this nice weather and lugged my laptop out in our backyard.  Of course I had to clean the table I'm using first coz it was dirty from having been rained on and such, but now it's nice and clean and I'm using it!

I can't believe summer's almost over.  But if you live where I live you'll be asking "What summer?!"LoL

Seriously!  We only experienced I think a week of summer and after that it felt like fall/spring/winter once again!  Mind you during the week when it was uber hot (it was right after we got back from our trip to Waterton last month) I wanted it so badly to be fall already! -LoL- I just needed a break from the heatwave, ya know?

Well, my summer's pretty boring.  Watched a few movies I wanted to see and spent majority of the time working my buns off!  I did manage to get a week of holiday in last month, but I think that's the only holiday I'll be having until'next year.  I'm still thinking on what to do for next year.  It's a somewhat BIG DEAL of a year for me, ya know?  Big event happening in my so-called life next year, so to speak, hehehehe.

Well, I guess I better refill my glass with Coke and continue munching on my crunchy Old Dutch extreme cheddar chips.  I think I'm gonna put in some writing stuff for this current WIP I am working on.  I dunno where this WIP will take me, but so far I'm internally giggling and feeling positive it will be going somewhere that'll probably surprise me, hehehe.

    My LATEST Obsession...

...but unlike other obsessions out there, this one's really good for me, provided I stick to it.  And I think I will be sticking to it like crazy glue on anything! -LoL-

What the heck am I talking about?

    Simple.

wiifit Sis finally got her hands on a Wii Fit!  It was on sale at Best Buy so she quickly snagged it.

Anyway, she bought it last Friday or Saturday and I didn't get the chance to use it until Sunday morning.  I kinda set a goal to lose such and such pounds in 2 weeks, and while I'm working out (and trying to eat healthy as well or less or whatever) I am working out too doing some yoga poses and other exercises included in the disc.

It's fun, but it ain't easy.  Some of 'em are easy, but as you unlock more and more poses and tests, it gets harder and harder.  You'll be really challenged.  But I was sweating lots!  Just try the hula-hoop and see if you don't run out of breath before the timer runs out. -LoL-

Anyway, having a Wii Fit at home helps me loads.  For one thing I won't be spending such and such on gym membership fees that I won't be able to go to daily or every other day or whatever coz by the time I get my arse home from work I'll be too damn tired and lazy to drive out to the gym!  Now if I only have one job then I don't think going out after I get home from work would be a problem, but since I have two jobs I'm juggling plus I'll be attending some part-time classes come Septemeber (provided I get to enroll for the classes I need to take for the course I have in mind), going to the gym won't even end up in my Top 5 Things Needed to be Done!

    Not quite what I expected...

HP_HBPposter Compared to the 5th movie, I'd say this one was better than the last one.  However, I still wasn't at all thrilled about it, having read the book and I was kinda expecting to see certain scenes done up almost exactly the same way it was done in the book.  For instance the Harry/Ginny kiss.  That was my most fave scene in the 6th book (shortly after the Quiddith try-outs), and I was anticipating to see HOW it was going to be retold when the book was turned to a movie.

Well, that scene between Harry & Ginny in the Room of Requirement didn't even make me giggle! And although throughout the entire movie it was hinted that there was an attraction between Harry and Ginny...well, I just didn't feel it.  But I have to give props to the Hermione-Ron-Lavander triangle; the scene in the hospital wing was just classic!  Poor Ron wasn't aware exactly HOW he and Lav broke up, hehehe.

Anyway, it was still a good movie.  I have to give major props to Tom Felton, who played a pivotal role in the movie.  His tortured Draco was really very believable.  I knew he already had the annoying Draco down to a T, but for him to put in that much emotion and uncertainty when he had to deal with what he was tasked to do...epic!

Now next on my MOVIES TO WATCH is...The Ugly Truth!  I'm off Monday so I think I'll drag Mom along with me Sunday and we'll watch it.  I heard from my sis that she didn't stop laughing the entire time, so we'll see if the movie was indeed that hilarious.

    Making My TWITTER More Interactive...

Out of sheer boredom today at work (it was my first day back from my one-week holiday and it was a slow day for the first part of it) I've decided to compile a list of QUESTIONS I'd want to hear/read some answers to.  Since I Tweet a lot (trust me when I say a lot) I thought why not make my Tweets more interactive, ya know?

So I came up with doing a QUESTION OF THE DAY thing where every day (Monday to Friday only since that's when I get bored at work or I need a break from overworking, hehehe) I'll post a question and would love for others to reply to it.l  Heck, they can even RT (re-tweet) it and see/read what others has to say.

My first QotD was: Why do you Tweet?

I know, I know, pretty lame question, but hey, that was just a trial question. -LoL-  I wrote up a list of questions I'd like to ask each week day and hopefully I get some pretty good response/replies back.  I think I'm gonna be posting my Tuesday QotD before I fall asleep and just RT later on in the day...or not. -LoL-  First I gotta find my list of questions. -LoL-

OK, I am soooooooo not making any sense here, I know, but if you have Twitter and you're bored, just check out my Twitter and interact with me through there. -LoL-  I promise I won't bite or be nasty or rude or anything!  I'll just continue on being my crazy, insane self most of the time, hehehehe.

    Leaving Waterton...

CIMG2231 Tomorrow we're leaving this cozy little getaway place called Waterton Park and go back to the real world.

This past three days here has been...well, it certainly has been quite an experience!  It's only a small town but it's got lots to offer!  The whole day today we spent it walking around town, checking out places and having coffee -- twice -- before lunch time, then we stopped by the food mart & grabbed some bread to eat for a late lunch before we took a ride up to where the Prince of Wales hotel was perched and checked out Cameron Falls too.

Overall it was a well-deserved vacation.  The three days, three nights we stayed here (couldn't really count tomorrow as day 4 coz we're leaving really early -- like around 7-ish or a bit later, but definitely before 9am!) was just fantastic.  Sure it rained our first and second night here.  Heck, it's our 3rd night and it was drizzling as we made our way back from the Fireside Lounge where I had some drinks with the 'rents and my sis.

It was a nice bonding experience for the four of us.  So many hijinks that happened that weren't caught on camera, but it will forever be imprinted in our memories.  And some of the hijinks were caught on camera as well.

Although I have a gut-feeling this will be the only holiday I'll be having this year, it was a holiday well spent, I tell ya.  I'll definitely come back here, but not next summer.  I'll let myself miss Waterton for a bit before I head back down here, but it sure gave me ideas for my story plots, hehehehe.  I thought I'd be able to work on some of my manuscript here, but I just couldn't.  I just end up keeping track of the plot bunny ideas that decided to creep up in the back of my head somewhere, hehehehe.
